Mizoram’s village libraries are getting a digital wing — and a new lease of life

The village library of Hnahthial, a single room above the community hall, has added what the sign calls a ‘digital wing’: two e-readers, a scanner, and a digitised archive of Mizo-language newspapers going back to the 1930s.

The state’s literacy mission has extended the model to 50 libraries, with a focus on keeping young readers connected to their language.

Librarians report an unexpected effect: the older generation now visits to teach the younger how to read the old print.
