Assam’s ‘one district one product’: from muga to mangrove honey

Assam’s ‘one district one product’ programme has selected 33 products — muga silk from Sualkuchi, mangrove honey from the chars of Dhubri, bamboo crafts from Hailakandi — and is building the supply chains to take them national.

The programme’s quiet success is logistics: packaging standards, cold chains and freight subsidies that small producers never had.

Officials say the next step is a regional brand that carries the Northeast’s name as a mark of quality.
