Tripura’s unakoti: the hill of a thousand gods awaits its road
Unakoti, the ‘one-less-than-a-crore’ hill where ancient sculptors carved gods directly into the rock face, is Tripura’s greatest heritage site — and for decades, one of its hardest to reach.
A new road, visitor centre and viewing platform are changing that, and the site’s custodians are planning carefully.
‘The gods have waited here for a thousand years,’ one guide said. ‘We must not rush them now.’
