Agartala–Akhaura rail link marks a new chapter for Tripura’s connectivity
The Agartala–Akhaura cross-border railway, a 12-kilometre link connecting Tripura’s capital to Bangladesh’s network, has entered its first full year of passenger service.
The line, nearly two decades in the making, gives Tripura a direct corridor to Dhaka and onward to Kolkata — and planners say freight will follow, cutting the cost of moving goods into one of India’s most landlocked regions.
For passengers, the journey is short but symbolic: two countries, one ticket.
